It was a challenging time in my life when I started Fika's Freaky Friends. Recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, I had a mental breakdown that would dramatically change the path I was on.

At the time, I was working full time for a tech startup in San Francisco and getting my MBA part time. One day, it all became too much and I realizedI had to press the brakes and take time to recover. So I quit my job and I put my studies on hold for a
semester.

With all of my responsibilities gone, I found the time and space to reflect on what I truly wanted out of life. Bay Area start-ups were not it. In fact, none of corporate America was it.

The idea for Fika's Freaky Friends came soon after. So I started designing and these weird little characters were born. It wasn't until my second round of production that the little stories in each tag came to be.

After playing with Fika and the toys, I realized I was beginning to invent personalities for each character. Since this launching this brand was such an important part of my recovery, it felt write to incorporate these little stories inspired from experiences I've had in my own life to bring joy to people who may have experienced or continue to experience similar things.
