Pros and cons of visiting Paris with your dog

Paris, the city of love, lights, and croissants. But what about bringing your furry friend along for the adventure? We brought Fika in our last trip to Paris so here are some pros and cons we discovered about bringing a small dog to this amazing city!

Pros of Bringing Your Small Dog to Paris

1. Pet-friendly accommodations
Many hotels, cafes, and parks in Paris are pet-friendly, making it easier to include your dog in your travel plans. If you are renting an apartment, there is a law in France that protects your right to have a pet stay with you.

2. Many Parisians love dogs
If you want to chat with the locals, a cute pup is the perfect ice breaker! Most people in Paris are friendly towards dogs and their owners. You might just make a friend or two :)

3. Exploring Paris is a fun bonding experience
From picnics in the park to leisurely walks along the Seine, you and your pup can create lasting memories together. You also don't have to spend your entire trip thinking about and missing your pooch.

4. So many smells!
Imagine all of the new smells your dog will experience in Paris. Fresh baguettes, the fromageries (cheese shopss), the aroma of steak frites as you pass a bistro, and the smell of cigarettes hanging in the air (just kidding, this part's a con!)

Cons of Bringing Your Small Dog to Paris

1. Paris is dirty
Like any bustling city, Paris can be quite dirty. Be prepared to wash your pup's feet after a walk, especially if they have white fur like Fika. You may also encounter garbage your dog might want to get into, or a pile of doggie poo that somebody decided not to pick up!

2. There's not much grass
It can be challenging to find green spaces in Paris that allow your small dog to relieve themselves. Despite Paris being very dog friendly, many parks are closed to dogs. And some parks that allow dogs do not allow them to be on the grass. This can make it very difficult to find a place for your pup to relieve themselves. So when you arrive, take a stroll and find a spot that your pup is ok using, and then remember where that spot is!

3. Paris is a busy city
Parts of Paris can be extremely crowded, which may be overwhelming to a small dog. People are not always watching where they are walking, so keep an eye out in busy areas and consider carrying your pup if you think it's not safe for them.

4. People speak French!
If you don't speak French, you may encounter a language barrier when seeking assistance for your small dog. Make sure to have a translation app or basic French phrases handy in case of emergencies.

Ultimately, bringing your small dog to Paris can be a rewarding experience with the right preparation and mindset. Consider the pros and cons carefully before embarking on this adventure with your furry friend.

Ultimately, the decision to bring your small dog to Paris depends on your pet's temperament, your travel plans, and your willingness to accommodate their needs. With careful planning and consideration, you can have a memorable and enjoyable experience for both you and your furry companion in the City of Love.
